The location of LiDAR is related to the use cases developed by the OEM. But other parameters like volume and height of the LiDAR can enter into consideration. High-volume LiDAR, especially those based on fiber lasers, are too bulky to be placed in locations other than the roof. For a position behind the windshield, recent research from Cepton and Hesai shows that the volume needs to be limited, as well as the height, to avoid obstructing the driver’s vision.
