Smuggling of migrants is a crime committed by perpetrators seeking to make a profit by enabling another person or group of people to enter or stay in a country without authorization, or by providing fraudulent documents for these purposes. Migrant smuggling is generally a crime against the state, though aggravated smuggling offences may also involve crimes against the person. The international legal definition of smuggling was agreed upon in 2000, in the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migr
