In 1992, the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro led to the creation of three landmark multilateral environmental agreements – the UNFCCC, UNCBD and UNCCD – collectively known as the Rio Conventions: The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which aims to stabilise greenhouse gas emissions and mitigates climate change. The Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), which focuses on conserving biodiversity, ensuring sustainable use of its components and equitably sharing
