Metaverse is an anchor term for developments in and around virtual, mixed and augmented reality and virtual worlds. It’s a term first coined in 1992, but which saw widespread adoption in 2021. Facebook rebranded to Meta, with Mark Zuckerberg announcing the company’s intention to build an online world where people can game, work and communicate in a virtual environment.
