After increasing during the first year of the pandemic, in 2020, calories purchased for at home consumption remained higher in 2021 than pre-pandemic, in 2019. In the first quarter of 2021, households were on average purchasing 295 (or 16.5%) more calories per day than in the first quarter of 2019. By the beginning of 2022, calories purchased into the home were back to their 2019 levels.
