The year 2025 ranked among the three warmest years on record, according to the World Meteorological Organization, even as scientists from the European Union determined that average temperatures have now exceeded 1.5°C of global warming for the longest stretch of time since records began.1 As in other recent years, Europe continued to feel the effects of sustained warming related to climate change, including the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, droughts, floods, storms and hail.
