This paper draws on a review of promising practices for implementing stackable credentials conducted for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC), which is implementing a statewide approach to stackable credentials. The projected growth of occupations requiring education and training beyond high school and the emergence of new workplace technologies that may require workers to reskill and upskill throughout their lifetimes has stimulated interest in short-term, career-focus
