All dollar amounts for median household income are in 2020 dollars. To remove the effects of inflation, dollar amounts for years before 2020 are adjusted using the retroactive series of the consumer price index for urban consumers (CPI-U-RS). (That approach is consistent with the Census Bureau’s treatment of multiyear estimates, which are adjusted using the CPI-U-RS.)
